NEWBERG, Ore. — On Aug. 1, female athletes met at Rebuilt Fitness to show their strength at the second annual Women’s Strength Showcase.
The half-day noncompetitive event allowed athletes to attempt personal-record weights in front of a crowd in three events: squat, bench press, and deadlift. Each athlete had three attempts to lift weight in each event, adding more with each successful attempt.
The Women’s Strength Showcase was a fundraiser for PFLAG, a nonprofit organization “dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them,” according to the organization’s website. The event raised money through a silent auction and wine purchase.
