NEWBERG, Ore. — Firefighters brought a kitchen fire under control at a single-story home in the 200 block of West North Street in Newberg on Friday night, and one person was evaluated at the scene for minor injuries, according to Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue.

Crews were called to the residential fire at 9:18 p.m., the agency said in a Facebook post. Firefighters arrived to find smoke pouring out of the front of the home, and a search of the house turned up heavy fire in the kitchen.

“When it first came through, it didn’t seem like a lot,” said TVF&R public information officer Stefan Myers. “Once [TVF&R firefighters] arrived on scene, they saw how serious it was and called for more assistance.”

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said access to the kitchen and the search of the home were significantly challenging because of a large number of personal belongings throughout the house. Firefighters ultimately reached the kitchen through a window and brought the fire under control, the agency said.

One patient was evaluated at the scene with minor injuries, according to the agency. A fire investigator is working to determine the cause of the fire as of Saturday, Oct. 24.

The Newberg-Dundee Police Department, Dayton Fire, Carlton Fire, and Dundee Fire assisted at the scene, the agency said.
