NEWBERG, Ore. — A fire at a two-story home in the 300 block of N The Greens Avenue in Newberg on Monday afternoon resulted in minor injuries to one person and one firefighter, according to Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue.
The agency said in a Facebook post Monday night that 911 received multiple reports of heavy smoke coming from behind the residence shortly after 2:30 p.m. First-arriving crews found heavy fire and smoke along the rear exterior of the home, with smoke coming from the front garage, the agency said.
Firefighters used hose lines on the exterior fire while also entering the home, where conditions shifted quickly and visibility was zero, according to the agency. Crews conducted primary and secondary searches and confirmed that all occupants had evacuated and no one remained inside. Firefighters brought the fire under control and stopped it from spreading to neighboring structures, the agency said.
One person was evaluated and treated at the scene for minor injuries. One firefighter sustained minor injuries because of the changing conditions inside the home and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. The firefighter has since been cleared and returned to duty for the remainder of the shift, the agency said.
A fire investigator responded to the scene and is working to determine where the fire started and what caused it. Newberg-Dundee Police and Dundee Fire also responded to the scene, according to the agency.
