NEWBERG, Ore. — Catherine O’Hara has been waiting a long time for someone to earn her trust.
The roughly 5-year-old domestic shorthair tabby has been at the Newberg Animal Shelter for 17 weeks — longer than most cats stay. She arrived after her previous owner lost their job and could no longer afford her care. Catherine had been with that family since she was 6 weeks old, so the shelter environment has been a significant adjustment.
She’s not shy about having opinions. Catherine is selective with her affection, prefers attention on her own terms, and has a clear fondness for head scratches, a good meal, and a sunny windowsill where she can survey her surroundings. Staff member Lisa has become one of her favorite people — a reminder that once Catherine decides someone is safe, she bonds deeply.
She would do best in a calm, patient household with an adopter who understands that earning a cat’s trust is its own reward.
If you’re ready to let her set the pace, Catherine O’Hara is ready for her close-up.
The Newberg Animal Shelter is open Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. To schedule a visit or submit an application, visit Catherine’s profile at newberganimals.com or email frontdesk@newberganimals.com.
