Civil Rights Training

The NDSD Board civil rights training session stemmed from a complaint filed with the Oregon Department of Education during the 2021-22 school year. The complaint alleged that a board member experienced civil rights violations at three different meetings.

The department found that the board may have violated ORS 659.850—an Oregon law prohibiting discrimination based on race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin relating to employment—and OAR 581-021-0045—an administrative rule that requires school districts to adopt and follow grievance procedures for resolving discrimination complaints—and encouraged parties to resolve the issue through conciliation.

“None of the current board of directors were directors at the time,” Bridges said during the meeting. “In fairness, the Department of Education wanted us to move a little sooner than having it today, but Rebecca Piros, who was the named person in that complaint, asked that we do it when we have a new board seated. I really appreciate working with Rebecca on that for the conciliation agreement. The Department of Education had accepted all the changes we had made up to the date and recognized we would comply fully with the agreement with this training.”

The former board’s terms expired in June 2023, and new members were elected in May 2023 and May 2025.

2025-26 school calendar

The board approved the Newberg-Dundee School District’s 2025-26 academic calendar.

The first day of school will be Sept. 2 for 1st-6th graders, 9th graders, and Catalyst Alternative High School students; Sept. 3 for 7th, 8th, and 10th-12th graders; and Sept. 8 for kindergarteners.

The full calendar is available on the district’s website.
