DUNDEE, Ore. — Breakside Brewery has opened a new food cart at its Alit Wines property in Dundee, adding smash burgers, wings, and other pub fare to the wine-country destination.

The Portland-based brewery soft-opened the new food cart at its Alit Wines property at 531 Highway 99W starting on Sept. 13. The cart will serve the food to compliment Breakside’s beer and Alit’s wine.

“One of the main things we’ve been missing is food here on site,” said Dan Brownhill, Breakside’s director of retail operations.

Brownhill said Breakside wanted to offer something more casual and approachable than some of the food options commonly found at Dundee’s wine-tasting rooms.

“We want to bring something that’s just really satisfying,” Brownhill said. “You finish a day of wine tasting, and you could have another charcuterie board, or you could have an awesome, juicy, delicious smash burger.”

The food cart’s soft opening period will continue as Breakside works to test and refine the menu. The company plans to promote the food cart more widely after its initial opening and is considering a larger event in early October.

The food cart will initially follow the property’s existing hours, which are 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Brownhill said Breakside hopes the addition of food eventually allows the property to expand its hours.

The food cart is also part of a broader effort by Breakside to develop its Dundee property into a casual destination for both locals and visitors.

“You go and do a tasting, and then you’re on your way back home and you’re like, ‘Oh, cool. Here’s a place that we can stop,'” Brownhill said. “And you can grab something delicious and satisfying to eat before heading back to Portland.”

Breakside acquired Alit Wines in March 2025 and has since incorporated the property into its beer-and-wine operations. The company recently added a year-round tent with seating and televisions, which Brownhill said will be used to show college and professional football games.

With the addition of food, Brownhill said the goal is to create a place where people can spend more time at the property rather than simply stopping in for a drink or wine tasting.

“We just want a place for people to hang out,” he said. “We want people who live in the area to have a place that’s easy and comfortable, where they can come and grab a pint of beer or a glass of wine, watch some sports on TV, and grab some really good satisfying food that isn’t going to cost an arm and a leg.”

The brewery’s arrival in Dundee has also been accompanied by efforts to become part of the local business community, Brownhill said. Breakside has hosted events with other local businesses and plans to continue developing the property as Dundee grows.

“We’re here for the long run,” he said. “We bought this property, and so we’re not going anywhere.”
