Show Your Love for Local Trails on National Trails Day – June 7

NEWBERG, Ore. — Friends of Chehalem Trails is inviting the community to roll up their sleeves for National Trails Day on Saturday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to noon at Ewing Young Park in Newberg.

Part of the nationwide celebration organized by the American Hiking Society, this volunteer event offers a chance to give back to the trails and outdoor spaces that bring us together. Volunteers will help with trail upkeep, habitat restoration, and park beautification projects, all while connecting with fellow nature lovers and neighbors.

“Volunteer events like this are more than just park cleanups—they’re about investing in the future of our shared spaces,” said Matt Dolphin, a lead volunteer with Friends of Chehalem Trails. “We want to build a culture where people feel connected to nature and to each other.”

Gloves, tools, and guidance will be provided. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome—just bring comfortable clothes, water, and your enthusiasm. Parking is limited, so walking, biking, or carpooling is encouraged.

This event follows a successful Arbor Day effort that brought out 86 volunteers to plant over 100 trees at Friends Park. With community hikes and regular trail projects, Friends of Chehalem Trails is helping foster a stronger connection between people and place.
