Arbor Day Volunteer Event Set for April 24 at Schaad Park
NEWBERG, Ore. — Friends of Chehalem Trails, in partnership with Chehalem Parks and Recreation District, the Sustainable Solutions Group of the Newberg-Dundee Area, and Yamhill Soil and Water Conservation District, will host an Arbor Day tree planting and habitat restoration event Friday, April 24, at Schaad Park from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Volunteers will plant trees and remove invasive vegetation at the park, located on Eagle Street. Organizers said the work is intended to improve habitat, increase park resilience, and add shade to the oak savanna landscape. The event builds on last year’s Arbor Day gathering at Friends Park, where nearly 100 volunteers planted more than 100 trees.
“In events like this, you really see the best of the community,” said Matt Dolphin of Friends of Chehalem Trails. “It’s not just about planting trees. It’s about people coming together to care for a shared space and invest in the future of our parks and trails.”
No experience is required. Tools, gloves, and guidance will be provided. Parking at Schaad Park is limited, and organizers encourage attendees to walk, bike, or carpool when possible.

Historic Homes Tour Coming to Newberg April 18 to Benefit CASA
NEWBERG, Ore. — Yamhill County Court Appointed Special Advocates will bring its Solid Foundations Tour to Newberg on Saturday, April 18, featuring six historic properties available to tour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The self-guided tour is a fundraiser for Yamhill County CASA, which recruits, trains, and supports volunteer advocates for children who have experienced abuse or neglect in the county’s court system. The event is being held during Child Abuse Prevention Month and expands on a debut tour held in McMinnville last year, where hundreds of participants toured six historic properties in that city.
This year’s Newberg lineup includes the Baird House, a 1912 Colonial Revival residence now serving as the home of the George Fox University president; University House, a 1906 home near campus that has been restored and now operates as a guesthouse; the 1888 Building, a downtown commercial landmark that originally served as Newberg’s first bank and now houses street-level retail and upper-floor apartments; Pulp & Circumstance, an 1896 Queen Anne-style building in downtown Newberg that houses a gift boutique and a guest loft; an East Third Street Craftsman home built in 1919; and the Hoover-Minthorn House Museum, an 1881 residence that served as the childhood home of President Herbert Hoover and is operated today as a public museum.

Chehalem Mountains Winegrowers Celebrate 20 Years at Annual Tasting Event
NEWBERG, Ore. — Chehalem Mountains Winegrowers will host its annual Magic in the Mountains wine tasting event Saturday, May 30, at The Allison Inn & Spa from 1 to 4 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person.
This year’s event marks the 20th anniversary of the Chehalem Mountains American Viticultural Area. Thirty-nine wineries will pour at the event, including Adelsheim, Elk Cove Vineyards, Ponzi Vineyards, Rex Hill, ROCO Winery, Chehalem Winery, Raptor Ridge Winery, Cooper Mountain Vineyards, and others. Food bites from local purveyors will also be available.
