Public Parking Lots Restricted/Closed During Ongoing Construction
According to the City of Newberg, parking access in public downtown parking lots will be reduced or closed completely from Aug. 20 to Aug. 23 while crews reseal and restripe the lots.
The public parking lot on E. Second Street, known as the Merchant Street Lot, will reduce its 88 spaces to 50% capacity to resurface and restripe one side. The available spaces will then flip to conduct work on the other side.
The public parking lot at the intersection of N. Blaine Street and E. Hancock Street, also known as the Water Wise Garden Lot, will be completely closed during this time. The public parking lot outside the Newberg Public Safety Building beside Memorial Park will also be completely closed.
Notices have been distributed to local businesses and community members near these lots, the city reports.
The lots will reopen completely on Aug. 24.

Juan’s Kitchen Food Truck Closes, For Sale
Juan’s Kitchen food truck, which opened at The Bite of Newberg in April 2024, is closing, according to the owners.
“We’ve decided to close down, so we’re selling the food truck and getting out of the pods,” they said via Instagram Messenger.
The bright blue food truck’s menu featured a collection of “flavors from Mexico City and a twist of fusion,” according to its Instagram page. This included tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and a Crunchy Wrap.
The food truck experienced a medical emergency in late July, which limited its hours and availability. Soon after, the owners said they were debating closing down.
“It’s been hard financially,” they said. “I don’t think we can afford to keep running the business at that location.”
They confirmed the truck’s closure on Thursday, Aug. 15. They did not specify the cost of purchasing the food truck.
Newgrass Bluegrass Festival Coming to Newberg March 2025
According to Wolves & People Farmhouse Brewery owner Christian DeBenedetti, Newberg’s Chehalem Cultural Center will host the Newgrass Festival, a new event featuring bluegrass and American folk music, on March 14 and 15, 2025.
“Bluegrass music has been at the heart of our brewery for years, and we are thrilled to be giving back and tuning up Newgrass Numero Uno, with hopes to make it an annual event,” DeBenedetti said in an Instagram post.
He said the lineup is not yet finalized, but the festival plans to include live music performances, an art show component, seminars, and lobby vendors. The official launch of the festival is planned for November.
The festival will update the community via social media with information on the lineup, ticket releases, volunteer slots, sponsor opportunities, and more.
“We can’t wait to share more details as they become available and celebrate this treasured musical heritage we love so much in our beautiful hometown of Newberg,” the Instagram post stated.
NDPD Acquires, Tests Armored Vehicle
According to Newberg-Dundee Police Department (NDPD) Public Information Officer Brian Hagen, NDPD recently acquired an armored vehicle at no cost and is driving it around town to determine its viability.
The armored vehicle, painted a dark matte gray and standing taller than most vehicles with angular armored plating, was spotted driving around Newberg last week both with and without sirens. Officer Hagen said NDPD is testing the well-used vehicle to determine its mechanical functionality before deciding whether to keep it.
Officer Hagen did not respond to follow-up questions regarding the vehicle’s maintenance cost, intended use, or demonstrated need by press time.
