NOFF Cruise-In Seeking Participants

The Newberg Old Fashioned Festival (NOFF) Cruise-In Car Show event is looking for locals with cool cars to participate in the annual car show to take place Sunday, July 28 2024.

The Cruise-In Car Show is a non-profit event with a great family atmosphere filled with great cars, good music, activities, food and vendors in Memorial Park, according to the event’s registration form.

Each year, the event releases a theme for the event. The NOFF theme is “Lights On in Newberg,” while the Cruise-In Theme is “Hot Wheels, Newberg Edition.”

​Registration includes complementary goody bag, dash plaque and tickets to visit the Ken Austin Private Car Collection, according to the NOFF event website. Half of the proceeds are donated to the charity of the registrant’s choice listed on the registration form.

ODOT Seeks Input from Newberg Residents

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) wants to hear from local Newberg residents about improvements to the highways that run through town according to a release from the state organization.

ODOT, in coordination with the City of Newberg, is identifying improvements on E 1st Street and E Hancock Street (OR 99W) and OR 219 (N College St.). The study is focused on finding ways to make the road safer and easier to travel for everyone, whether they be walking, rolling, or biking the release states.

The study is aimed at understanding the traffic patterns and uses at four intersections around Newberg:

  • E 1st Street and S Everest Road Intersection
  • E 1st Street and S Church Street Intersection
  • OR 99W and OR 219/E 1st Street Intersection
  • E 1st Street and E Hancock Street Intersection

Newberg residents can share their feedback about the intersections at the ODOT project website. The survey takes around five minutes to complete.

Lemon & Olive Opens Brick and Mortar Restaurant

Local Mediterranean restaurant Lemon & Olive is opening its brick and mortar restaurant in the former Honey Pie Pizza building at 112 1/2 S College Street in Newberg.

According to an Instagram post, Lemon & Olive will be open consistently Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Lemon & Olive started as a food truck at The Bite of Newberg in February 2021, operating until the end of November 2023 while they updated the former pizzeria space to suit their needs. Part of the retrofit includes indoor seating to supplement the existing outdoor seating.

Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm Returns This Weekend

Famous seasonal event, the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival, is preparing to welcome guests for the 2024 season starting March 22. The festival runs daily through May 5.

While the blooming tulips are the main attraction, several events surround the flowers including hot air balloon rides, cut flower and tuber sales, food and beverages for purchase on site, children play stations, and more. Special events dot the calendar, from the Tulip Trail Run to a Blood Drive to a wine tasting event.

You can track the bloom status at their bloom tracker (thanks to warm weather, the blooms have already started). Tickets must be purchased in advance to control crowds and run $15 for adults and $10 for seniors. Season passes are sold for $65, no time reservations required.

Admission includes parking, walking access through the tulip fields, children’s play area, shuttle to and from the fields, access to the Wooden Shoe gardens, and other activities according to the Wooden Shoe website.

Mountain View Middle School Battle of the Books Team Headed to State

According to a Facebook post from the Newberg-Dundee Public School official account, the Mountain View Middle School Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) team, called “The Griffins,” secured a win at their regional competition and are headed to state.

“We are so proud of The Griffins! This team is focused, hardworking, delightful, and fun,” said Mountain View Librarian Stephanie Miller in the Facebook post. “They truly work as a team, and they have consistently displayed great sportsmanship as well as phenomenal performance under pressure. Their win is a testimony to their diligence as no team makes it this far without a lot of hard work!”

The Oregon Battle of the Books is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program started in 2007 sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries, according to the program’s website.
