Hiland Water Corporation Purchased by NW Natural Water
According to Business Wire, NW Natural Water Company LLC (NW Natural Water), a wholly-owned subsidary of Northwest Natural Holding Company purchased the Newberg-based Hiland Water Corporation in an expansion that includes water companies in Bend, Oregon and Arizona.
Hiland Water Corporation serves over 7,000 customers in western Oregon, according to the release. While Hiland Water is located in Newberg, Newberg residents purchase water through the City of Newberg, and this acquisition will have no impact on Newberg residents said City of Newberg Public Works Director Russ Thomas.
Allison Inn & Spa Voted #1 Best Oregon Hotel by US News & World Report
The U.S. News and World Report awarded Newberg’s Allison Inn & Spa number one Best Hotel in Oregon, and number one Best Hotel in Portland. The resort came in at number 88 in the United States.
The U.S. News and World Report is a digital media company dedicated to helping consumers, business leaders, and policy officials make important decisions in their lives, according to their website. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
The rankings are determined by U.S. News and World Report editors, who research “thousands of hotels and resorts, collect dozens of data points, and use an unbiased approach to calculate rankings,” according to the report. The methodology considers a hotel’s star rating and both expert and guest sentiment by collecting annual awards from distinguished travel publications and TripAdvisor user scores.
Studio 306 Collective Closes, Owners Move
The Studio 306 Collective in Newberg announced its closure in January as owners Marion McMuldren and Bob Flippen prepare to move to Ohio.
“(Lakewood/Cleveland Ohio) was my front yard growing up, so I’m familiar with their passion,” McMuldren said. “It’s a hip suburban area with existing, evolving, well-established, thriving, welcoming, and supportive arts program and community.”
The studio at 306 E. Sherman Street in Newberg will go on the real estate market in the next few weeks. The Studio 306 operated as an art gallery, hosting many artists from around the region, as well as classes and wine tastings. During the 2023 holiday season, they acted as a collective artist market to promote local artist work during the busy, commerce-driven holiday season.
Oregon SNAP Recipients Encouraged to Request Replacement Benefits Before Deadline
According to the Oregon SNAP benefits webpage, benefits recipients have until February 16, 2024 to request replacement benefits from lost food during January’s ice storm that left many without power.
Yamhill county is one of 27 counties eligible to request replacement benefits.
To request replacement, beneficiaries are required to fill out a form that catalogs the food destroyed and quantity, as well as how much each item costs. Replacements requests can be filed in person, online, via email, or through the mail.
Girl Scout Seeks Funding for Newberg Animal Shelter Project
Taylie Smith, a local Girl Scout, is attempting to raise $1,500 to fund her Gold Award Project — three outside semi-permanent shelters that will ensure dogs stay cool in the summer and dry in the winter while still enjoying outside time.
“This is an important issue for me because shelters all around the world have issues with funding,” Smith wrote on her GoFundMe page. “By creating a more sustainable way of operating even for one shelter means that I can make a difference in how much care the shelter can afford to give to the animals in their guardianship.”
The funds will go to purchasing materials. Any extra funds from the project will go straight to the shelter.
