Congresswoman Salinas’s First Bill Passes House

According to a release, Oregon’s 6th District Congresswoman Andrea Salinas passed her first bill thorough the House of Representatives with unanimous, bipartisan support.

“For decades, the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde have been trying to fix a survey error that denies them the right to pursue land claims,” the Congresswoman said in a news release. “My bill will finally correct this historical wrong. And it will be enormously consequential both for the Grand Ronde Community and for Indigenous peoples’ rights in Oregon and across the country.”

The bill is now sent to the Senate. Given it passes, it will land on President Joe Biden’s desk to become law.

“In the meantime, I’m thankful for the support of Senator Jeff Merkley and the entire Oregon delegation, my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, and the many stakeholders who helped make this a reality,” she said.

Local Group Seeks Funding for Film Startup

A local group of filmmakers are seeking funding for a short film project they’re calling, “The Patron.” The film is set to be a Lovecraftian mystery surrounding a local librarian, a patron who checks out hundreds of items a day, and — well — fish people.

The story centers around Howard, a friendly librarian, who notices an odd patron named Jeff who frequently appears to act with urgency, according to the promotional video for the project.

The project is head up by Avery Abigail, the Director and Producer, as well as Newberg’s own City Manager Will Worthey — a former librarian who is writing the script for the short film.

They hope to raise funding with enough time to film and produce the film before the annual H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, Ore. in October 2024.

“The fish monsters are the most challenging part of the production,” the team said on their Seed & Spark campaign. “Our production team needs time and resources to create the ultimate version of these unsettling beings.”
