CARLTON, Ore. — CJ and Elise McCollum have launched a new winery, McCollum Family Vineyard, built around a 318-acre estate in the Yamhill-Carlton American Viticultural Area, the couple announced in a press release on June 17.
The new label is a companion to McCollum Heritage 91, the wine brand that former Portland Trailblazer now Atlanta Hawks guard CJ McCollum and his wife launched in 2020, according to the release. Heritage 91 wines will continue to be sold through distribution channels said McCollum Family Wines consumer sales representative Natalie Schmidt.
McCollum Heritage 91 wines have in the past been produced at Adelsheim Vineyard, located just outside Newberg, according to prior reporting by KGW in 2021, when the McCollums prepared the Yamhill-Carlton property for grape production while continuing to produce at Adelsheim. In 2025, they expanded production at the Carlton Winemakers Studio.
The Yamhill-Carlton property, a former Christmas tree farm, was first planted by the McCollums in 2021 It now includes 56 acres of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with the winery describing the fruit as sustainably farmed and LIVE Certified.
“It has been a remarkable journey building our family’s legacy through McCollum Heritage 91 and now furthermore with McCollum Family Vineyard,” CJ McCollum said in the release.
Elise McCollum, co-proprietor of both labels, said the new venture reflects direct control over the estate.
“By owning the land and the grapes, we have full control over the story we want to write and the quality we aim to deliver,” she said.
The inaugural McCollum Family Vineyard portfolio includes Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Rosé, with a sparkling wine planned for the future, according to the release. Winemaker Gina Hennen, who has worked with the family since McCollum Heritage 91’s founding, will oversee winemaking for the new estate label.
The creative design for the label features four flowers: an aster, delphinium, carnation, and chrysanthemum all representing different members of the family.
The company plans to open a tasting room and multi-purpose estate space in Carlton, according to the release. The brand will be at Newberg’s Good Company Cheese on August 14 to sample its products. Learn more at McCollum Family Vineyard’s website.
