NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The George Fox University STUNT team claimed its second consecutive Division III national championship Sunday, defeating top-ranked Muskingum University 25-20 in the title game at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Bruins entered the final day of competition from the losers’ bracket after a 26-21 loss to Muskingum on Saturday but won twice Sunday to secure the title. George Fox first eliminated No. 3 Saint Mary’s, 24-16, before defeating the Muskies in the championship game.
In the title game, George Fox led from the opening quarter. The Bruins took a 4-2 lead after the first period, extended it to 12-6 at halftime and held a 17-12 advantage entering the fourth quarter. A six-point cushion with two routines remaining sealed the outcome.
According to the Stunt the Sport organization, STUNT is a fast-growing team sport that separates traditional cheerleading into head-to-head technical competitions. Teams compete in four quarters—partner stunts, pyramids and tosses, jumps and tumbling, and team routine—earning points for precision, synchronization, and difficulty. Each routine is judged side-by-side by officials, and strategy plays a key role as coaches select which routines to perform and when to challenge a call.
GFU’s STUNT team won its first D-III national championship in 2025, defeating Muskingum in the semi-finals and again in the finals.
The championship is the program’s second straight and sixth overall national title for George Fox in the Division III era across all sports, joining baseball (2004), women’s basketball (2009) and women’s track and field (2018).
