According to the City of Newberg, road closures were set to begin Monday, June 9, as part of a summer repaving project announced by the city in May. But last Tuesday, City Manager Will Worthey said contractor Eagle Elsner informed the city it could not begin work on time due to internal delays.

According to interim public information officer Emily Salsbury, Eagle Elsner has committed to hiring an extra crew to make up for the lost time.

The affected streets, previously scheduled to close this week, are now scheduled to close on Monday, June 23, and Tuesday, June 24 in order to be completed by the end of the City of Newberg’s fiscal year. They include:

  • E. 4th Street between S. Howard and S. College Street
  • S. Center Street between E. 3rd and E. 9th Street
  • S. Meridian Street between E. 8th and E. 9th Street

Work on these segments is part of the city’s broader summer repaving effort targeting over a dozen roads, with a focus on repairing high-traffic areas in poor condition. The city has emphasized that residents will receive advance notice for each phase of the project.

Worthey said he and city staff had distributed leaflets to area houses that may be affected by street closures. New leaflets with updated information will be distributed in the coming days.
