The past few seasons have been the stuff of legends for GFU women’s golf: in three of the past four seasons, the Bruins have either had an individual champion (Makensie Toole in 2021, Alison Takamiya in 2024) or a team national championship (2023). Fox enters the championships ranked No. 3 in both the WGCA Mizuno Coaches Poll and in the SCOREBOARD rankings.

The Bruins will be headed to a familiar location — Kingsmill Resort in Virginia. Just months prior, Fox traveled to Williamsburg to play at the course and in the Division I Kingsmill Intercollegiate, placing third out of 10 D-I teams. The resort features two courses, the Rivers Course and Plantation Course, both of which will be used in the tournament.

Action will start at the River Course early on Tuesday morning as five Bruins will compete for George Fox in the 2025 NCAA Championships: Alison Takamiya, Mackenzie Toole, Liana BrownAinsley Carter, and Katelyn Lam.

Alison Takamiya will enter the NCAA Championship as the defending national champion and could be on her way to winning another; the fifth-year senior is currently ranked number one in the nation. Takamiya won five of the nine events she participated in in 2024-25 and became the first Bruin to ever be named Player of the Year four times, sweeping all three NWC events en route to a dominant victory.

Another fifth-year senior in Makensie Toole will look to end her storied career strong as well. The native of Australia won the national title as a freshman, and entered her fifth go-around as the number three-ranked player in the nation. Despite missing the NWC Championship due to injury, Toole was named All-NWC First Team thanks to a pair of runner-up finishes in Fall and Spring Classic.

The Bruins are one of two teams in the nation — the other being Carnegie Mellon — to have three top 10 players. For Fox, Liana Brown joins Toole and Takamiya as the eighth-ranked player in the country and fresh off of the best single-round performance in NCAA Championship history — a 68 (-4) in the final round to help the Bruins finish fourth overall.

AInsley Carter will compete in her second nationals for the Bruins after earning her first First Team All-NWC honor. Carter finished in the top six at each NWC tournament this season, with a high finish of fourth at the Spring Classic.

Rounding out the scoring five with Katelyn Lam, making her first NCAA appearance for Fox in her freshman campaign. Lam was a First Team All-NWC athlete as a freshman thanks to one stellar performance. Lam did not participate in either the Fall or Spring Classic, but stunned at the NWC Championship, finishing third overall with a 152 (+8).

“The team is practicing hard!” Bruin head coach MaryJo McCloskey said, “These two courses are challenging her in Virginia but we are learning and planning on being ready to go. Weather forecast is showing rain tomorrow for the first round—but we’ve had quite a bit of that this season—-so we’ll embrace it all.”

The action will get started at 9:50 EDT (6:50 PDT) as Lam tees off first for Fox on the Rivers Course, which will be played on day one. The Bruins will be paired with two of the top teams in the country in No. 1 Carnegie Mellon and No. 2 Emory. 34 total teams will compete in the 2025 NCAA Championship, with a cut down to 15 after the first round.

Live scoring for the tournament will be on Clippd SCOREBOARD and is available at this link. Live streaming will not be available, but photo galleries after the first and final days will be available on Smugmug following the day.
