The hotel, located at 900 Brutscher St, aims to attract wine tourists, business travelers, and locals, further supporting the growing tourism industry in Newberg according to hotel owner Patrick Nofield.
The hotel features 79 rooms, a 24/7 market, an outdoor pool, complimentary breakfast and Wi-Fi, a fitness center, and a wine bar offering local selections. It is also pet-friendly, with an associated pet fee.
For Nofield, the decision to build the hotel dates back to 2015.
“My mother was convalescing in Newberg for an extended period in 2015–16, and while staying locally, it appeared there was a need for additional lodging,” Nofield said.
He was also drawn to the city’s unique energy, including George Fox University, Providence Newberg Medical Center, local shops, art galleries, and its location in Oregon wine country.
The Fairfield’s design aligns with Marriott’s standards but incorporates custom touches that reflect the local wine region. The lobby and public spaces, designed by SERA Design of Portland, include local art, furnishings, and a wine-themed atmosphere.
The wine bar will initially feature selections from regional wineries including Argyle Winery, Chehalem Winery, Zerba Cellars, and Marshall Davis, with plans to rotate additional local wines on a quarterly basis.
Open to the public, the wine bar invites the community to stop by and enjoy the space.
“It’s a very attractive setting, and it will be interesting to see how the community embraces it,” Nofield said.
“The world-class reputation of Oregon wines has been well established for decades, yet we still find ourselves as a region of discovery,” said Michelle Kaufmann, vice president of communications at Chehalem Winery, a featured winery on the hotel’s wine bar menu. “I believe this is in part due to the lack of lodging available. Our visitors need access to a range of options, from luxury destination resorts to hospitable hotels and the many bed-and-breakfast options that ensure the Willamette Valley offers something for everyone.”
Leigh Jensen, executive director of Newberg’s Destination Marketing Organization Taste Newberg, said the Fairfield supports both the local economy and tourism efforts.
“With a need to increase visitation to Newberg to support all of our businesses, wineries in general have seen a loss of visitors over the last several years,” Jensen said. “One factor can be the need for more lodging opportunities, and the Fairfield brings a great mid-range experience close to everything.”
She noted that tourism is directly tied to lodging through the transient lodging tax, which funds marketing and community support initiatives.
“We need people to stay overnight in our lodging properties to support our local community and have the resources to market,” she said. “This also helps our local restaurants, shops, and more as visitors spend money in our community.”
With Marriott’s global brand recognition, Jensen believes the hotel will help put Newberg on the map for more travelers.
“With the connection to Marriott, more people will find out about our community and Oregon wine country,” she said.
Nofield said he has long envisioned bringing this hotel to Newberg, with a commitment to investing in the community.
“Our purpose is to take good care of our employees, create memorable experiences for our guests, and invest in the community,” he said.
Beyond the wine bar, Nofield said the Fairfield offers a convenient location for visitors that otherwise is out of the way for other Newberg-area lodging. It is walkable to Chehalem Glenn Golf Course, Fred Meyer, local restaurants, and less than a mile from downtown Newberg.
Nofield said he has a clear vision for what guests will experience during their stay: A positive hospitality experience that exceeds guests’ expectations for service and value.
The Fairfield is officially opening for business on Thursday, April 17. Current room rates start at $166 per night for off-peak nights, and average $175 per night. To learn more or book a stay, visit Marriott’s Fairfield Newberg booking page.
April 16 Correction: Newsberg incorrectly said the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott was opening April 21. The company’s Facebook page announced official opening on April 17.
