Yamhill Valley Beer Adventure Passport to Launch in October
McMINNVILLE, Ore.—Starting October 1, beer lovers can explore Oregon’s craft brewing scene with the Yamhill Valley Beer Adventure Passport. Sponsored by Visit McMinnville, the program will feature over 10 breweries and cideries throughout the Willamette Valley.
The free passport, printed on recycled paper, includes biographies of each brewery and amenities such as pet-friendliness and food options. Participants can collect stamps at each stop and submit completed passports for a prize from Visit McMinnville, with a chance to win an all-expenses-paid trip to McMinnville.
Lee McCollins, Director of Marketing at Visit McMinnville, hopes the program will deepen connections to the area’s brewers and boost tourism.
“We’re proud to spotlight the committed and creative artisans who live here,” McCollins said.
Participating Newberg breweries include Wolves & People Farmhouse Brewery and Chehalem Valley Brewing Company. Neither Long Brewing nor Coattails Brewing have consistent hours and therefore cannot be included on the passport.
The passport trail also includes revered Yamhill County breweries like Heater Allen Brewing, Gold Dot Beer, ForeLand Beer, Golden Valley Brewing, McMenamins Hotel Oregon, and Raw Cider Co. The initiative aims to highlight local breweries and cideries, further diversifying the region’s beverage tourism beyond its well-known wine production.

Local Fantasy Map Maker Prepares to Launch Audio Drama Kickstarter
NEWBERG, Ore.—According to an Instagram post, Newberg-local fantasy cartographer Cody King is preparing to launch a fantasy-themed audio drama called “The Long Rest: A Supernatural Fantasy Thriller.”
“In an ancient ruin, tragedy strikes and six survivors embark on a desperate flight into a far-flung wilderness,” the Kickstarter page states. “As they search for their vanished leader, conspiracy grows. In The Long Rest, unlikely allies face a mounting challenge: keep their true natures hidden long enough to discover their betrayer.”
Presented by Attalus Productions, King is one of eight voice actors taking on various roles surrounded by “stunning soundscapes, incredible acting, and gut-wrenching writing that will leave you on the edge of your seat.”

Newberg-Filmed Sci-Fi Horror Movie Test Screening Released
NEWBERG, Ore.—When parts of the sidewalk around the Cameo Theater were closed down last fall, Newberg residents flooded to social media to figure out what the buzz was all about.
Now, you can see for yourself.
“Set in the summer of 1982, Test Screening follows the story of a small Oregon town excited about a Hollywood studio’s test screening of a new blockbuster,” wrote BritFlicks.com. “The town speculates whether it could be a new John Carpenter film, the latest Spielberg hit, or another STAR TREK installment. Four lifelong friends eagerly attend the screening, only to discover that the film is a mind-control experiment with terrifying effects on their community.”
Test Screening premiered at FrightFest on August 22, 2024 in the United Kingdom, according to the movie’s IMDB page. The movie’s trailer is released, but the actual film is not readily available as of press time.

The Patron accepted into the H.P. Lovecraft Festival
PORTLAND, Ore.—Newberg-filmed horror and mystery short film The Patron will premier at the 29th annual H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and CthulhuCon on October 4 through 6, according to its social media pages.
The Patron, written by Newberg-local Will Worthey, launched a Seed&Spark funding campaign in 2023 and raised $11,585 to start production. The production crew started filming in January 2024, using the Newberg Public Library as the setting.
“Our hero, local librarian Howard, is at the center of a mystery,” states the Seed&Spark page. “What is this odd patron up to, and why does he checkout hundreds of items every single day? How do the fish people fit into the picture? If Howard wants answers, he risks facing his own doom.”
The H.P.Lovecraft Film Festival & CthulhuCon is an annual literary horror and weird tales convention in Portland, Ore. and Providence, Rhode Island celebrating and promoting the works of H.P. Lovecraft, according to the festival’s website. The festival was founded in Portland, Ore. in 1995.

NDPD Releases DUII Enforcement Results
NEWBERG, Ore.—According to a press release from the Newberg-Dundee Police Department (NDPD), enhanced traffic patrols in August through Labor Day weekend resulted in 11 arrests for DUII during the targeted dates.
NDPD Public Information Officer Sargent Brian Hagen said the department is unable to determine if the results from the increased enforcement were higher or lower than average, as they do not track that information. NDPD also does not readily track data related to DUII-related crashes, he said in an email to Newsberg.
However, he said NDPD had made 49 DUII arrests from the start of the year to July 1, 2024.
The increased enforcement was made possible through a grant from Oregon Impact and in-partnership with the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).
