Newsberg Awarded LION Sustainability Audit and Funding Program

NEWBERG, Ore.—Local Independent Online News (LION) Publishers Organization announced that 44 news outlets across North America, including Newsberg Media, were selected for its Sustainability Audit and Funding program.

“The program includes a thorough assessment of each participating news business, with actionable recommendations, resources, and up to $20,000 in direct funding to help them take the next steps toward organizational sustainability,” stated the release from LION Publishers.

Media organizations are paired with hyperlocal media experts who help identify pathways to financial stability and sustainability based on the organization’s goals and market. Funding is then awarded to assist in achieving those goals.

As owner and editor of Newsberg Media, I am thrilled to share this announcement. Many of you have been following along since I sent my first newsletter in April 2023, recognizing the need for true community journalism that tells all the stories in town, not just the ones that get the most clicks.

I’ve been rewarded by steadily growing subscribers, supporters, and advertisers who believe in and help fund this mission. This audit will help the business grow its subscriber base, integrate technology to amplify my efforts, and set me on a path to stabilizing the business so I can do this full-time.

If you see more Newsberg out in the wild soon, don’t be surprised! And as always, tell your friends, family, neighbors, and even your dog about Newsberg. We can only grow with more people validating the mission through viewership and contributions.

NEWBERG, Ore.—The Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) organization awarded the Newberg Area Habitat for Humanity (NAHH) $400,000 to help fund a proposed two-unit dwelling, according to a press release from NAHH.
