Heatwave Hits Willamette Valley, Events and Businesses Adjust

Temperatures breached 90°F in the Willamette Valley during the Fourth of July holiday weekend and stayed there, projected to remain elevated through this week. The heatwave will peak tomorrow, July 9 at 103°F highs.

Temperatures are projected to drop starting Wednesday, with consistent highs of 90°F through the rest of the week and into next week.

Local Commercial Real Estate Advisor Philip Higgins Appointed to Statewide Committee

According to a press release from the desk of Oregon Governor Tina Kotek, local commercial real estate advisor Philip Higgins was appointed to the Mid-Valley Regional Solutions Advisory Committee in the Business Representative seat starting June 24, 2024 to end June 30, 2028.

“Regional Solutions is a uniquely Oregon approach to community and economic development that brings together the public, private and civic sectors to advance projects, solve problems, seize opportunities, and respond to emerging local needs,” the release states.

The committee was adopted into statue in 2014 aimed at bringing together public, private, and civic sectors to advance projects, solve problems, and respond to emerging local needs.

Philip Higgins, co-founder of Pacific Crest Real Estate Advisors, has served as the Chehalem Valley Chamber of Commerce president and vice-president in the past. Higgins also recently served on the System Development Changes committee, which reframed how the City of Newberg collects fees based on change of use, resulting in a more business-friendly model.

Local P.E.O. Chapter Announces Scholarship Recipient

P.E.O. Newberg Chapter DX awarded Newberg High School graduate Isabella Herboldt with a $2,000 scholarship as part of their annual scholarship program.

“We are delighted to award Isa with our funds which have been raised by community members for our foundation,” said P.E.O. Newberg Chapter President Sue Nesbitt.

According to a press release from the organization, Herboldt plans to attend George Fox University to study nursing.

P.E.O., which stands for Philanthropic Education Organization, is an international organization founded in 1869 centered on supporting women. Since its founding, the organization reports providing approximately $432 million in financial assistance to 125,000 women.

To be eligible for the scholarship, female students must have a 2.75 GPA or above.
