“After 25 years operating Oregon’s largest newspaper group, we made the decision to sell the company,” said Pamplin Media Group owner Dr. Robert Pamplin Jr. “Due to age and health reasons, it made sense to pass the company on to someone else who will carry on the tradition of balanced journalism, the old-fashioned way.”

Pamplin launched the Portland Tribune in 2001 and formed PMG the same year. Over the following two decades, the media conglomerate continued purchasing regional newspapers and publishers, including Eagle Newspapers, Inc. in 2013, which owned the Newberg Graphic along with other small-community Oregon newspapers.

Existing PMG President J. Brian Monihan will continue to lead PMG operations under CMG as regional publisher.

With the PMG purchase, CMG now owns 180 publications in the United States and Canada—many of which are in smaller towns. The company employs more than 2,000 people worldwide, according to its website. CMG’s future plans for the purchased publications were not disclosed.

According to its website, CMG’s mission is to “serve as guides to efficient and effective marketing, trusted journalism, and rewarding careers so our communities, businesses, and people who work with us can grow and thrive with a strong sense of purpose and resulting prosperity.”

Newberg Graphic Publisher Al Herriges did not respond to a request for comment. Newberg Graphic Managing Editor Gary Allen replied to an email from Newsberg with, “No comment.”
