City of Newberg Opens Electric Street Sweeper Name Voting
The City of Newberg collected names from Newberg youth last month and unveiled the semifinalist names for the new electric street sweeper:
- Leny the Bug
- Sir Sweeps-a-lot
- Skrubby
- Sweep Caroline
- Sweeping Beauty
According to a Facebook post from the Newberg Public Library, there were over 100 entries to the naming contest. The city will apply a custom wrap to the street sweeper, donning the winning name.
The name and electric street sweeper will be revealed at
Public Works Day on June 20, 2024.
Voting closes May 21, 2024. Residents can vote for their favorite name at the City of Newberg Google Poll.

Briar Rose Creamery Wins a Good Food Award

According to the organization’s website, Dundee-based Briar Rose Creamery won an award for its butterbloom cheese, Butterbaby.
“Since opening our doors, Briar Rose Creamery has received numerous awards for our cheese,” the creamery stated in a blog post on its website. “It is an honor to be recognized by our peers and panels of judges in blind tastings.”
The Good Food Foundation is a San Francisco, Calif. based organization aimed at seeking out and promoting “players in the food system who are driving towards tasty, authentic and responsible food in order to humanize and reform our American food culture,” according to their website.
Briar Rose is one of three area companies recognized by The Good Food Foundation: Dayton’s Durant Olive Mill and Yamhill’s Kristof Farms were both finalists in their categories, and Sherwood’s Simple Trail Blueberry Pecan Granola won a Good Food Award.
Lyrics Cafe Opens Drive-Thru
According to an Instagram post, Lyrics Cafe opened the drive-thru next to their cafe on E Hancock Street. The drive-thru is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Come celebrate with us and check out all the great offerings like our regular coffee, espresso and tea menu, but also baked goods, blended drinks and smoothies,” the post exclaims. “Savory food will be offered soon.”
Lyrics Cafe assumed ownership of the former Coffee Cottage building, remodeled the inside, and opened its doors to the Newberg public in November 2023. The drive-thru remained closed while owner Rob Hankins operated the cafe business.

Four Graces Winery Moves Tasting Room
According to a post on Instagram, Four Graces Winery is moving its tasting room from 9605 NE Fox Farm Rd (along OR-99W in Dundee) to 9590 NE Worden Hill Road in Dundee, next to the Black Walnut Inn.
“The Four Graces has thrived over the last 21 years in its current location,” the post stated, “and we’re excited to take the magic with us into our new space. We hope you’ll join us in this new chapter.”
The new tasting room is slated to open May 10 and will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. by appointment. The tasting room will also feature culinary pairings prepared by local chef Chase Williams.

Ballots Sent Out in Yamhill County
According to a release from Yamhill County Clerk, ballots were mailed to registered voters in Yamhill County on May 1, 2024 for the May 21 Oregon Primary Election.
Party-affiliated voters are voting to choose the nominees for the general election in November 2025. Yamhill County voters are voting whether to approve Measure 34-332—Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue Local Option Levy for Fire and Emergency Medical Services, as well as Yamhill County Commissioner, Position 2.
Votes are due on or before May 21, 2024. If you ballot does not arrive in the mail before May 7, you can request a replacement ballot before May 16, 2024. For more information, please contact the Yamhill County elections office at 503-434-7518 or by email at elections@yamhillcounty.gov.
