Wilsonville Subaru Donating $100 for Every Adoption at Newberg Animal Shelter in October

According to the Newberg Animal Shelter social media pages, Wilsonville Subaru is donating $100 to the shelter for every animal adopted in October.

“Time to find your new best friend!” The shelter wrote on a post promoting the partnership.

Kayt’s Kitchen Starts Serving Treats at Chapters Starting October 18

Local baked goods food cart Kayt’s Kitchen is setting up shop at Chapters Books and Coffee on the corner of E 1st ST. and S College St. in Newberg on Wednesdays and Sundays from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or until they’re sold out.

Kayt’s Kitchen’s food truck is parked outside of Pulp & Circumstance on S. College St., but wanted to serve in the “warm community space” of Chapters during the rainy season.

City of Newberg Seeks Committee Volunteers

According to the City of Newberg website, five local committees seek volunteers for upcoming vacancies:

  • Affordable Housing Commission: 2 regular , 1 student
    • The charge of the Commission is to develop recommendations for consideration by the Council regarding how to best use the financial resources of the Newberg Affordable Housing Trust Fund. The purpose of the Newberg Affordable Housing Trust Fund (NAHTF) is to support the development, preservation, and rehabilitation of housing that is affordable to the citizens of Newberg with incomes that do not exceed 100% of the area median income.
  • Budget Committee: 2 regular, 1 student
    • The Budget Committee consists of our seven City Council members and seven citizens. Budget proceedings generally start in April and end in May. The City Council has a public hearing for the formal adoption of the City budget at their first meeting in June.
  • Historic Preservation Commission: 1 regular, 1 student
    • The Historic Preservation Commission identifies, recognizes, and preserves significant properties related to the community’s history, encourage the rehabilitation and ongoing viability of historic buildings and structures, strengthen public support for historic preservation efforts within the community, foster civic pride, and encourage cultural heritage tourism.
  • Planning Commission: 2 regular, 1 student
    • The Planning Commission is a public body responsible for considering land use matters.
  • Traffic Safety Commission: 4 regular, 1 student
    • To give the citizens of Newberg a forum to voice traffic safety concerns, evaluate related issues, provide a liaison with the City and promote traffic safety within the community.

Wolves & People Releases Benefit Beer for Oregon Agricultural Trust

On Thursday, October 12, Wolves & People is hosting Cheers to the Land, where they will release an exclusive beer benefiting the Oregon Agricultural Trust (OAT).

The campaign is a collaborative effort between Oregon’s great breweries, cideries, farmers, and OAT to help OAT permanently protect Oregon farmland from development and transition it to future generations, according to a press release. Last year, the campaign raised $12,000 in support of OAT.

Newberg brewery Wolves & People, which also participated last year, is releasing a “hyperlocal wild ale saison fermented with our native Forager yeast from our beehives, Tillamook strawberries, rhubarb from Sunshower Hill Farm, Crosby-grown Cashmere hops in a light dry hop, vanilla bean, and a kiss of Mecca Grade specialty malt.” The beer will be available on draft only.

Oregon Agricultural Trust is a statewide agricultural land trust designed to address the interrelated challenges of ag land loss, farm and ranch succession, and access to land for the next generation. OAT partners with farmers and ranchers to protect agricultural lands for the benefit of Oregon’s economy, communities, and landscapes.

Lutheran Community Services Northwest and A Family Place Open New Location in Newberg

On September 20th, 2023 Lutheran Community Services Northwest (LCSNW) Yamhill County and A Family Place officially opened their new building located at 600 E. Sixth Street in Newberg, according to a press release from A Family Place.

The building will host A Family Place’s relief nursery classrooms, along with programs like free parent education classes and the community diaper bank.

LCSNW will also run a mental health clinic out of the building, including the school based mental health teams. Last year, the school based mental health team served nearly 200 students and completed over 300 suicide screenings, according to the release.

A Family Place and LCSNW’s mission is to keep children safe and families together. With continued support from the community, donors and partners this goal is being achieved and their reach is growing every year.
