“We’re looking for something that’s public art friendly, vandalism resistant, and safe for the community,” said NDC Public Art Manager Rachel Thomas. “Nothing with safety hazards or concerns that people can accidentally get hurt on, and we’re looking for a wide variety of different styles that represent all of our community.”

NPAC and NDC are accepting applications on a rolling basis until the call is filled — those received by July 26 will have preferential treatment. Community members can see the future locations of sculptures around town — there are five-foot by five-foot concrete pads surrounded by orange plastic fencing as seen on the north side of the Newberg Public Library and in the middle of Butler Square.

An honorarium of $1,250 will be provided to each artist selected. One of five sculptures selected will be purchased by the NPAC for the city’s permanent collection.

The sculptures will be on sale to the general public, but must remain in the same spot for the two-year duration.

“We’re overjoyed to have new art installments in town that are accessible to all residents,” said Aubrey Nichols, NDC Executive Director.
