The work is taking place on a city-owned parcel north of Rogers Landing, off East 14th Street, and includes construction of a new access road.

“This property was the former location of the wastewater treatment facility until the late 1980s, when the new facility was constructed off Southeast Wynooski Road,” said Russ Thomas, Newberg’s public works director. “Since it was decommissioned and removed, the site has been used by city public works for the disposal of inert excavation spoils — dirt, rock, gravel, concrete — and for material storage.”

Thomas said the site was previously accessed by an easement road located across a neighboring property, so updates were needed. Eugene-based PW Engineering handled the gravel access road project, according to City Manager Will Worthey.

“Since the development of the Waterfront Master Plan and the Newberg Urban Renewal Area, the city had been asked to consider vacating the easement road to remove the encumbrance on the property caused by the easement,” Thomas said. “As the Riverfront Master Plan moves forward and the site reaches capacity, this will also allow access to the property and the surrounding area for future construction activities.”

The new access road has now been completed, according to Thomas.
