The move comes after the passing of the longtime property owner, which prompted the sale of the current building and the end of Yamhill Community Action Partnership’s (YCAP) lease on Sept. 30. Services at the current site will continue through the end of August, and the new center at 615 N. College St. is scheduled to open Sept. 2.
Despite the transition, YCAP leaders said they expect little to no disruption for the youth who rely on the drop-in center. The same staff will continue providing services, and the new facility is intended to expand opportunities.
“The new location offers showers, a full-service kitchen, and laundry facilities, which will allow us to teach hands-on skills like cooking, food safety, and independent living,” YCAP said in a statement. “It also places youth services in closer proximity to housing referrals, case management, and mental health support, offering more comprehensive wraparound care.”
The Youth Outreach Drop-In Center has operated in Newberg for 22 years, providing young people with resources, mentorship, and a safe space to gather. At AnyDoor Place, the program will continue offering those services while adding life skills education and expanded access to community supports.
In addition to the youth programming, AnyDoor Place Newberg will also shift its overnight shelter to serve families with children and unaccompanied youth ages 18 to 24. Adults 25 and older will be referred to motel-based shelter programs, community partners, or the low-barrier shelter at AnyDoor Place McMinnville.
YCAP said the move could also strengthen its eligibility for certain federal grants by meeting requirements for integrated service delivery, supporting the long-term sustainability of youth services in Newberg.
Community members can support the transition by sharing information with local youth and families. Questions about the drop-in center can be directed to Youth Outreach at 503-538-8023 or by email at amberh@yamhillcap.org.
