The library will reopen with regular hours on Tuesday, September 9, but visitors should expect some changes while construction continues. A temporary entrance will be located on the north side of the library, facing the Chehalem Cultural Center on E. Sheridan Street. This entrance is accessible by both ramp and stairs.

Patrons with items checked out will receive extended due dates into October, and the outside drop box will have limited availability. Holds will remain on the shelf for an extended period to accommodate the closure.

Book and material donations to the Newberg Library Friends will be accepted by appointment only. Donors are asked to email NBGfriends@protonmail.com to schedule a drop-off.

Limited programming is planned during the repair period. Summer storytimes end August 13 and will resume on September 23. The library is encouraging visitors to check its events calendar for updates.

Handicap parking will be limited during the construction. Curbside pickup of holds remains available, and anyone needing additional assistance can contact Library Director Korie Buerkle at korie.buerkle@newbergoregon.gov.

Buerkle said the library appreciates the community’s patience during the updates.

“We’re excited to improve the library for our visitors and will keep everyone posted through our eNewsletter and social media,” she wrote in an announcement.

Newberg to Conduct Smoke Testing on Sewer System

NEWBERG, Ore. — The City of Newberg will begin smoke testing its wastewater collection system this month to identify leaks, cross connections, and other defects.

The work, contracted through Keller Associates, is scheduled for August and September. Crews will release a non-toxic, non-staining white or gray smoke into the system to help locate breaks and inflow points. City officials said the smoke has no odor and poses no fire hazard.

The smoke should not enter homes unless plumbing is defective or drain traps have dried out. Residents are advised to pour a gallon of water into each floor drain before testing begins. If smoke does enter a home, residents should evacuate immediately and notify work crews.

The city also asks residents to alert officials if someone in their household has respiratory issues and may be immobile during the testing. For questions or to report concerns, call 503-537-1236.

Naturopathic Physician Opens Valley Holistic Health in Newberg

NEWBERG, Ore. — Dr. Jakob Schmidt, a naturopathic physician specializing in regenerative and root-cause medicine, has opened Valley Holistic Health in Newberg.

Schmidt treats patients with both recent and chronic injuries, pain, fatigue, infections and other complex health concerns. His approach includes therapies such as ozone treatments, IV and injectable nutrients, prolozone, herbal medicine and specialty cancer therapies.

“I see health as a journey rather than a destination,” Schmidt said. “Every patient brings a unique story, lifestyle and physiology.”

At his new clinic, Schmidt said his goal is to help patients activate the body’s natural healing capacity and reclaim long-term health, not just manage illness.

Valley Holistic Health is located at 440 Villa Road. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 503-482-6888 or visiting valleyholistichealth.com.

“Oregon in Summer Reverie” Opens at ART Elements Gallery

NEWBERG, Ore. — Art Elements Gallery is closing out the season with “Oregon in Summer Reverie,” a group show featuring three local artists that runs through Oct. 18.

The exhibit, which opened Aug. 12, highlights the work of painters Don Bishop and Molly Reeves alongside ceramic artist Don Sprague. Together, their pieces reflect the light, color and textures of an Oregon summer.

A reception is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 16 at the downtown gallery, with refreshments and an artist talk beginning at 3 p.m.

Bishop’s impressionistic landscapes, Reeves’ vibrant use of color and light, and Sprague’s vessels with rich glazes each bring a unique perspective to the theme. The gallery describes the show as exploring “the collective daydream that Oregon landscapes inspire and the lasting impressions they leave in our memories.”

Art Elements Gallery is located at 604 E. First St. in Newberg.
