According to the protest organizers’ website, “No Kings is a national day of action and mass mobilization in response to increased authoritarian excesses and corruption from [United States President] Trump and his allies.”

Newberg was one of several communities across Oregon—and thousands nationwide—to participate in the demonstration.

“Staff estimate the crowd was about 700 people and was one of the larger demonstrations that the city has seen in recent years,” City Manager Will Worthey wrote in an email. “The city staff are extremely glad that all participants showed reason and restraint and that it was peaceful.”

Organizers say the core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. Counterprotesters were present but limited.
