Success! You're on the list.

Started in 1993, AHST is run by the Arts Alliance of Yamhill County based in McMinnville, Oregon. The tour, which consistently runs the first two weekends in October, provides a literal open door for art lovers to experience local artists’ studios.

“Our goal is to provide an opportunity for visitors to meet the artists in their working environment, gaining insight into their creative process and a greater appreciation for the value of the work they produce,” said AHST coordinator James Nelson.

Art enthusiasts interested in visiting artist studios during AHST first need to acquire a AHST button, sold for $10 at every studio location as well as ART Elements Gallery, Chehalem Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the Chehalem Cultural Center. This one-time purchase grants admission into any of the participating studios.

Kathleen Buck

Acrylic & Watercolor Painting
20080 SW Jaquith Road, Newberg, OR 97132

“My paintings attempt to capture the essence of figures and objects using texture and careful color choices to express a mood or emotion. I want dabs and splashes of paint to fuse into a recognizable image emerging from an abstracted background. I strive to create a strong harmonious composition that will engage the viewer.”

Sharing studio space with Kathy Thompson & Linda Workman-Morelli. Linda will be demonstrating pit firings on both weekends. Wheelchair accessible.

Karin Carter

Sculpture, Mixed Media, & Oil Painting
625 N Main Street, Newberg, OR 97132

“Various ideas influence me: how nature intersects with man, a fascination with the body, (elbows and ears and nostrils are incredible, are they not?), and a desire to take one surreal or playful step away from classical sculpture. My love of color appears in oil paintings and digital collages.”

A serene scene of a lake with lake grass and trees in the background created by John Cummings

John Cummings

Pastel Painting
Artisanal Wine Cellars: 614 E 1st Street, Newberg, OR 97132

“I offer plein air pastel paintings based on local landscapes and the Oregon Coast. My figurative work starts when something catches my eye; especially people going about their daily activities. Studio pastels are based on reference photographs, sketches and notes. Many of my works are derived from trips to Bolivia and from the streets of La Paz. And then there’s my favorite peony paintings!”

Terry Emery

Concrete & Mixed Media Sculpture
17285 NE Hillsboro Highway, Newberg, OR 97132

“Using my hands and found items, I create work that is touchable, in harmony with nature, and full of life and joy. Orbs of concrete and rock are an amalgamation of organic elements, natural colors, cracks and fissures, all reflecting the wonderful imperfection of life. My bodices and figurines are a mix of everyday items to form unexpected poignant pieces of art, reflecting gaiety and serenity.”

Adele O’Neal

Wire-wrapped Sterling Silver Jewelry
341 SW Hemlock Street, Dundee, OR 97115

“As a child, I always collected rocks, sometimes to my parents’ chagrin! I have continued that love of nature in my jewelry, incorporating beautiful natural stones, crystals, and pearls. Some pieces feature my own fused glass or recycled “stuff”. I handcraft my work around a focal piece to provide an expression of beauty and uniqueness.”

This year’s focus is utilizing Sub-Rosa (what lies beneath) to create art that captures the space and frees the spirit. I’m driven to combine traditional and modern building methods using mixed material (woods, metals, polymers and others) to produce bold works with an element of escape and surprise.”

Penny Tucker

Book Arts
AspenWolf Arts sharing studio with Adele O’Neal: 341 SW Hemlock Street, Dundee, OR 97115

“Why do I make little books? Creating a little book allows me to research and learn new things about different topics. Incorporating quotes from various sources gives me some knowledge about subjects that I knew little to nothing about. Using my own photos in some books is an added bonus!”

Linda Workman-Morelli

Pit-fired Clayworks
20080 SW Jaquith Road, Newberg, OR 97132
