Large Bird Migration Flying over Willamette Valley on Sept. 18
WILLAMETTE VALLEY, Ore.—According to the Bird Alliance of Oregon, 4.3 million birds are traveling through Oregon skies, specifically over the Willamette Valley, on Sept. 18. This follows a large migration event on Monday night.
The Bird Alliance of Oregon recommends people in the migration areas turn off their outdoor lights to help the birds navigate.
“Skyglow drowns out stars, confusing [the birds] and luring them into urban areas,” wrote the organization in a Facebook post. “Once trapped in the windowed maze of the city, birds either hit buildings directly or circle them until they collapse from exhaustion.”
