The Newberg Public Art Council (NPAC) debuted their latest at the Newberg Wednesday Market last week, a mini-mural paint-by-number project featuring Newberg’s official flower: the Camellia.

NPAC will host the official event on Saturday, July 27 during the Newberg Old Fashioned Festival from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Butler Property in Downtown Newberg. Anyone wishing to participate can show up to the property during that time, where NPAC will supply paint, brushes, and guidance if required.

According to the project overview, NPAC contracted local artists to create unique paintings of the Camellia flower, which were converted into “paint-by-number” designs, then traced onto four-foot-by-four-foot plywood squares. After the squares are painted, they’ll be sealed with a protective coating, and then placed around downtown businesses.

NPAC tested the painting system at the Newberg Wednesday Market on July 10, which the organization said worked very well. The painting was near complete after the four-hour market session.
