Bob & Crystal Rilee Park Reopens to Horseback Riders

According to a Facebook post from the Chehalem Park and Recreation District, Bob & Crystal Rilee Park reopened park trails to horseback riders on Sunday, April 27, 2024. The park is closed to horseback riders from fall until spring.

In September 2023, CPRD’s Board of Directors voted 3-2 to remove biking access at Bob & Crystal Rilee Park on Parrett Mountain in order to preserve the park’s original master plan, which did not contain rules for mountain biking access.

As part of the motion, CPRD Staff was instructed to search for another trail system for mountain bikers. According to a Facebook comment from Chehalem Park and Recreation District, the CPRD is continuing that process.

Former GFU Football Player Leon Johnson III Signed to Los Angeles Chargers

According to a press release from the university, George Fox University (GFU) Football Bruin Leon Johnson III agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Chargers after going undrafted during the 2024 NFL Draft, according to George Fox University.

Johnson III, a dual sport athlete in both football and baseball, played wide received for the Bruins from 2019 until 2022 before transferring to Oklahoma State University for the 2023 season. If Johnson remains on the team’s roster to the regular season, he will be the first Bruin football athlete to make a game-day roster or appear in an NFL game (former Vikings and Packers placekicker Aaron Elling attended GFU to play soccer, and appeared in 33 NFL games).

Johnson III, who went to high school in Bothell, Wash., led the team in catches, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns during his freshman year. He ended with 540 yards and three touchdowns during nine games as a junior, and totaled 55 receptions for 1,156 yards and 14 touchdowns as a junior at GFU. He broke GFU’s single season records for all-purpose yards, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns, as well as single game receiving yards, receptions, and touchdowns.

In his senior year at Oklahoma State University, he made multiple catches in all seven starts, and served as game captain for the Big 12 Championship Game against University of Texas.
