Intersection Study at N Main and Illinois (OR 240) Cancelled
The City of Newberg Intersection Study at N Main Street and Illinois Street along OR Hwy 204 has been cancelled according to City of Newberg Senior Engineer Brett Musick.
“Due to ongoing changes in staffing and budget concerns, the City Manager has provided direction to cancel the N Main at Illinois (HWY 240) Intersection Study project,” Musick wrote in an email. “The City Manager plans to take a different and similar approach to this project.”
The intersection on the north side of Newberg was picked for study because of a history of collisions, close calls, and mobility concerns. The intersection was redesigned in 2006 to help slow traffic through the area; however, there were enough concerns to prompt the city to improve the intersection.

Wolves & People Wins Bronze Medal at Oregon Beer Awards
Local farmhouse brewery Wolves & People’s “Oddly Specific” won a bronze medal at the annual Oregon Beer Awards in Portland, Ore. on April 4, 2024.
“There were almost 1100 beers entered across all categories this year, so the competition is fierce,” said Wolves & People owner Christian DeBenedetti in an Instagram post. “It was so wonderful catching up with friends from across the state and celebrating our win with the team and so many colleagues!”
Oddly Specific, a barrel-aged, bottle-conditioned mixed culture saison, is flavored with farm-grown pineapple quince, rooibos from Smith Teamaker, and Hallertau Blanc Hops. The beer won the bronze medal in the “Experimental and Historical Styles” category.

Newberg Public Works Investigating Alternatives to Gazebo Removal
The City of Newberg said Public Works Director Russ Thomas is investigating alternatives to removal of the Gazebo in Memorial Park, which was included in the Memorial Park Redwood tree removal plan as a response to public comments made on April 1.
“Moving the gazebo risks destruction of the structure due to dry rot,” stated the project page for the Blaine Street tree. “It may be possible to replace some of the post sections in the structure, and Russ Thomas is looking into this option.”
