Newberg Animal Shelter Requests Citizen Voices
According to an Instagram post from the Newberg Animal Shelter, the Oregon Department of Agriculture is proposing license fee increases for Animal Recuse Entities (AREs) that would hamper the nonprofit’s ability to shelter stray and rescue animals.
The most prohibitive part of the new structure, they say, would be a new fee levied per animals brought into the shelter.
“Last year Newberg Animal Shelter adopted 745 pets, so we’d likely fall into the fee for 501-1000 animals, which is $2,200!” the post read. “This is going to impact the animal rescue community, put more financial burden on us and how many lives we can save.”
The shelter is requesting people contact the Oregon Department of Agriculture and voice opposition to proposed fees. There is a public hearing on the matter Tuesday, February 27 from 9 – 10 a.m.
