Domaine de Broglie (Broglie pronounced “Broy“) has been renamed Domaine Lumineux (Lumineux pronounced “loo-mee-new“) as the award-winning director Francis Ford Coppola’s winery moves into the former Recipe: A Neighborhood Kitchen building at 115 N Washington Street, according to a press release from the winery.
The tasting room is planning to open in January 2024.

“[The winery] business is full of surprises,” said Domaine Lumineux General Manager and Winemaker Dave Petterson. “There are a ton of twists and turns, and we’ve been through a lot of them. But, you’ve just got to roll with it. Every opportunity presents new ways to learn and improve.”
The change comes just over two years after a fire burned down the Domaine de Broglie tasting room at 6475 NE Hilltop Lane in Dayton, Ore., on October 31, 2021. Rebuilding the tasting room has been a lengthy process, Petterson said, which prompted the company to seek temporary tasting room solutions.
The winery operated its tasting operations out of Elizabeth Chambers Cellars in McMinnville, Ore.’s Old Power House building during the transition period. However, the building changed ownership and was converted into a hospitality events space, forcing (what would become) Domaine Lumineux to find a more permanent home.
Mary Martin Miller, principal broker at Miller Consulting Group, along with broker Mike Morris said they’ve represented Domaine Lumineux for over a year to find the space.
“We looked around the valley at a lot of properties, and it’s really such a cool building,” Petterson said. “It’s truly up to the level of Coppola’s standard. It’s interesting and has a lot of character — it represents the brand very well.”
They’re not making many changes to the classic Victorian-style building located on the corner of N. Washington Street and E. Hancock Street, he said, apart from adding physics-themed decor from the previous tasting room (along with some Coppola memorabilia). The tasting room will offer both indoor and outdoor seated tastings, with a small menu typical of winery tasting rooms.
However, once they’re a little more established in the space, Petterson said they intend to creatively use the full commercial kitchen, which provides some exciting event opportunities.
“Having a full kitchen means we can potentially bring in some talented guest chefs for dinners or other food-themed events in the future,” he said. “It’s a huge part of the excitement of this space.”
The building, owned by Austin family member and ART Elements Gallery owner Loni Parrish, was built in 1898 and encompasses 2,085 square feet, according to Rita Wolff from Keller Williams Portland Premier and Oregon Wine Country Properties, the listing broker for the deal.

“We’re really excited about someone of that caliber coming to Newberg and, more importantly, seeing the potential that Newberg has in Oregon’s wine country,” Wolff said. “We can’t wait to see what they do with the space.”
Wolff said that Domaine Lumineux was one of many businesses interested in the space. However, Parrish was selective about who would occupy the iconic Newberg building. She wanted to be sure they would provide support to the Newberg community in one way or another. With Coppola’s name recognition and vineyard quality, it was a perfect fit, Wolff said.
“It’s been difficult for her over the years to hold out for the right businesses to move into her buildings, but it’s more important to her to find the right fit and grow downtown’s business core,” Wolff said. “Businesses that build the most goodwill for the community are the ones that move in.”
The name change came from the transitionary process, according to the website. The previous name, honoring French physicist and Nobel Prize winner Louis de Broglie, continues through the new name — French for “luminous”.
“The name Domaine Lumineux honors the relationship between light and wine, encouraging us to contemplate the complex interconnection of elements, energy, and artistry waiting to be discovered and enjoyed in every glass,” stated the release.
Petterson, the former winemaker at Vista Hills Vineyard before its purchase by the Coppola family in 2018, will continue as the winemaker for the brand. The 42 acres of vines at the property in Dayton were not damaged by the fire and still produce fruit — some of which you can taste in the label’s first wine: 2019 Brut Rosé.
Petterson said he and Domaine Lumineux feel Newberg is the perfect place to launch the new brand and grow the winery’s local customer base.
“I think Newberg is really poised to take off in the wine industry,” Petterson said. “There is a lot more interest in the town now, and we’re really excited to open a tasting room here. It feels like a of potential here — it’s different than McMinnville in a cool really cool way. We’re excited to see where it goes, and more excited to be a part of it.”
