Navetta Nursery Changes Name to Navetta Farm and Floral

Newberg dahlia farm Navetta Nursery is changing its name to Navetta Farm and Floral, according to owner Marta Soppe-Navetta.

“When we first started, our plan was to be a small plant nursery,” said Soppe-Navetta in an email to Newsberg, “but over the last few years we have transitioned to being mostly a flower farm and florist.”

Soppe-Navetta said the company is also developing a new website for the new year, but the current website is functional for orders.

Dahlia tubers are planted in the early spring. For more information, visit the nursery’s website.

Taza Coffee in Dundee Closed Indefinitely, Seeking New Location

On Friday, according to an Instagram post, Taza Coffee Bar was asked to vacate the property where their coffee stand sits immediately by new owners of the land. The coffee stand opened in September 2023.

“Earlier today the devastating news was bore to us that the new corporation owners of the land we are located on have a different vision in mind than a locally owned coffee shop,” Taza’s owners wrote. “That being said, we unfortunately have been asked to remove ourselves from this location by this Monday, December 11. Our last day is Sunday (December 10).”

The post continues to say they’re looking for new locations to serve the Dundee community in the future.

“We put in so much work into this little home of ours, and the community welcomed us with open arms,” the Taza team said in a subsequent post. “We are immensely grateful and we can never say it enough! It breaks our hearts that our time at this location has come to an end. This isn’t goodbye, we will be back!”

Local Short Film, The Patron, Fully Funded

A short film envisioned by a Newberg-based crew is coming to life as The Patron received enough money to start working on the project.

The project reached roughly 80% of its funding goal — $11,585 — meaning the team may have to find corners to cut in order to produce the short film in time for the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, Oregon, which will take place in October 2024.

“In January (2024) we will be hitting the ground running with all hands on deck to create the practical effects, prepare wardrobe and props,” wrote Avery Abigail on the Seed and Spark fundraiser platform, “and in February we plan to be ready to film.”
