This Holiday Season, Properly Dispose of Cooking Fats, Oils, and Grease

The City of Newberg is encouraging local residents to properly dispose of all fats, oils, and grease (FOG) this holiday season and beyond.

“While you’re busy in the kitchen whipping up that Thanksgiving feast, remember to keep FOG (fats, oils, and grease) out of your pipes,” stated the city in a news release.

Instead of disposing of FOG down your sink drains, collect it in a vessel, put into the freezer until it hardens, and dispose of the FOG in the trash can.

You can learn more about keeping your pipes clear at the City of Newberg website.

George Fox Certified Financial Planning Program Receives Grant

The Charles Schwab Foundation awarded George Fox University (GFU) a grant to bolster its Certified Financial Planning (CFP) program.

“The Certified Financial Planning program, a concentration in the university’s financial services major, is registered by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, the top credentialing certification in the profession,” stated a news release from GFU. “Wealth Management, a respected digital resource for financial advisors and estate planning professionals, ranked the program No. 23 in the nation in 2019-20.”

GFU is only a handful of Christian universities that offer a CFP program, according to the release. It’s also the only one of its kind in the Pacific Northwest.

The Charles and Hellen Schwab Foundation funds solutions in education, housing, and employment that increase economic power and wellbeing in historically marginalized communities, according to their website.

The grant will help the program by “expanding and creating efficiencies within the ‘forhireship’ program,” the release stated. “This will include developing relationships with new advisor firms, identifying key events to increase education, and supporting a financial planning scholarship for diverse and underrepresented students.”
