It’s berry season yet again, and that means weekend spent out in the fields picking your favorite berries around the Newberg-Dundee area!

Each of these Strawberry U-Pick Farms have been confirmed as open for the 2025 season through their website, social media, or a phone call. The other berry farms featuring raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries will be updated as the harvest season approaches.

The berry categories are in order of when they become ripe. This is a living list, and Newsberg will be updating as I hear about more U-Pick farms in the area.

Strawberry U-Pick Guide 2024

Strawberry Season: Memorial Day until around June 31.

All strawberry farms have been updated as of May 26, 2025

The Willamette Valley is strawberry country from late May to late June!

Visit our local U-Picks to experience the fun of berry picking during this short, sweet season. Most farms have a voice mail message set up to share information about the current season, including outages and closures, so make sure and check before you go.

Strawberry Varieties

All information is furnished by oregon-strawberries.org. Visit the site for more strawberry information and recipes.

  • Hood Strawberries: Hoods are known for their high sugar content and deep red color throughout. Eat them fresh and fast! Hoods are known to mold faster than other varieties due to the high sugar content.
  • Marys Peak: Marys Peak strawberries are some of the newer berries on the block, introduced in market for the 2018 season. Yielding medium to large sized berries of excellent firmness and flavor, Marys Peak strawberries are a deep red color throughout.
  • Puget Crimson: Puget Crimson are medium to large sized berries, dark red in color with excellent flavor that is well balanced between sweet and tart. While they can be frozen when harvested, they are primarily enjoyed fresh in late June or early July.
  • Shuksan: Shuksan strawberries are large, with a broad wedge shape and yellow/red seeds. They are bright red and glossy in appearance, medium-firm in texture, and excellent for eating fresh, freezing whole, or for making preserves and jam.
  • Sweet Sunrise: Sweet Sunrise combines the top characteristics of premium strawberries including Puget Reliance. This high yielding variety is a new favorite among u-pick and fresh market growers, and is known for its balanced sweetness.
